A camera roll of moments and memories from the adventures of last week! We visited Haddon Hall, an 11th century medieval manor, and its beautiful Elizabethan terraced gardens in Bakewell, Derbyshire, also known as one of the most romantic houses in Britain. Haddon Hall has played host to not one but three on-screen versions of Jane Eyre as well as cameo roles in Pride and Prejudice.
The wild gardens of Haddon Hall were what originally attracted me to the house, with its ancient walls softened by the grip of climbing roses and clematis and countless varieties of flora to discover around every corner. I became particularly enchanted by the black magic hollyhocks and foxgloves. ♥ I can only imagine how significantly more beautiful these gardens must look at the height of summer, but as you can see signs of autumn's decay had already begun creeping in.
We also spent a day wandering the captivating city of York. Even though I have visited York a handful of times, every time feels like the first. I can't help but marvel at the architecture and history of this wonderful city, York Minster being the most prominent, but by far my favourite place to visit is the Shambles, a real life Diagon Alley and arguably the best preserved medieval street in the world.
Couldn't you just imagine cloaked wizarding folk wandering this street?!
Whilst in York we came across a newly opened home decor shop called The Imaginarium which made my heart flutter. The interior was so dreamy, like a Victorian curiosity shop crossed with a slice of Wonderland! A few of my favourite details were a plethora of chandeliers and bird cages hanging from the ceiling, beautiful paintings on old serving trays and scarves draped over delicate hands protruding from the walls. There were so many items I wish I could have taken home with me but the two bell jars that I found were more than enough to carry!
My wonderful new bell jars! ^^
This week, for me at least, seems to have passed by with me barely even noticing. I find myself wishing, as I do every year around this time, for October to appear on my calendar, especially as the return of The Walking Dead and American Horror Story: Coven is just on the horizon!
