Arsenic and Old Lace

I know, I know.. I've done this before but I promise this is the last time I do it (unless it isn't, but I hope it is!) I assume you have probably noticed this strange name appearing in your reading list and hopefully by now you've realised it is me and not a weirdo trying to hack themselves into your blog roll! Yes, it has happened again, I have changed my name. Recently I have been feeling that 'Bella Morte'  just wasn't really me, and although Bella is my cat's name it just hasn't been speaking to me the way it used to, I feel like I have outgrown it somehow and that isn't such a good thing since this is my blog!

I had changed my instagram and tumblr name to Arsenic and Old Lace just over a month ago after having those same words stuck in my head for a week, not knowing where they came from or what inspired them! It wasn't until earlier this week that I discovered it is actually the name of a 1940s film/Broadway show and not just random gibberish from the depths of my imagination after all! That being said, I still have no idea where I came across it but where ever my subconsciousness picked it up from, I love it and now I feel like I really need to see the film because it looks and sounds like something I'd enjoy!

 I just adore the advertisement posters..

  1. I loved Arsenic & Old Lace when I was in my teens (yes, the movie was already over 40 years old by then), but I am afraid it will have lost something now, should I review it. I notice myself having lost patience with black & white movies over the last 20 years.

    1. Black and white movies still hold a place in my heart, I much prefer ones with a macabre twist though, I'm not so much into those lovey dovey type ones, give me horror and mystery any day! :D ~ ♥ ~

  2. I've never watched the movie but I like the new blog title. Bella Morte was nice but this title seems more you from what I've been reading.

    It's okay to change things. It's part of being a human; we change and evolve.

    1. It is strange isn't it?! I can't for the life of me recall what put those words into my head, it's as if I just woke up and they were planted in there, maybe from a forgotten dream! ~ ♥ ~

  4. I think you'll really enjoy that movie! It's pretty amusing and stars Cary Grant! I had a bit of a heads up on your name change from Tumblr. :) The new name matches your blog background. You may have noticed that I swiped the Arsenic and Old Lace illustration from your Tumblr page. I love the colors in it. There's a perfect balance of dark and colorful in the illustration, just like in the story.

    1. Thanks Justine! If you like it then I'm sure I will too! I checked out Amazon and it's only £5 at the moment! I may see if I can find it on YouTube first though! I have a big ol' bag of popcorn downstairs so if I can find it then that's my evening planned! I swiped a few from your page too, I'm loving your new tumblr! :D ~ ♥ ~

  6. I noticed your post on my blog roll because of the first picture, which I love, and coincidentally, just happened to have pinned on Pinterest a couple of days ago. Then I was wracking my brain trying to remember following a blog called 'Arsenic and Old Lace'! Haha.

    I love your new name! I saw the movie years ago on TV. It was even colourized, but I remember thoroughly enjoying it. It was charming, in a delightfully macabre sort of way. Now I want to see it again! I hope you get to watch it soon!

    By the way, I love the second poster too! Definitely Gorey-esque! :)

    1. That is a rather strange but cool coincidence! I don't have a Pinterest, only a Tumblr and I think one is certainly enough! You can lose time so easily on those things!

      I'd prefer to watch it in B&W rather than colour as it adds more atmosphere to a film I think! Especially during scenes with lightning! I hope I get to watch it soon too! :D ~ ♥ ~

    1. It really is! It sounds deadly but at the same time feminine with a definite Victorian twist as the Victorian era was the Arsenic century after all! ~ ♥ ~

  8. Oh, the movie is wonderful. A deliciously gothic comedy; a perfect brew of madcap and macabre. We first rented from the library and I am buying a copy for my very own!

    You profile photo is lovely, by the way. I don't think I've seen it before.

I've always loved your original blog title and the movie is one of my best EVER - some of Hollywood's best ever talents, a wonderful script and deliciously macabre subject ... two dear old ladies doing the local down-and-outs a favour with their services to the public ... oh and the mad nephew thinking he's on an archeological dig - TOTAL madness!!!! xoxoxo

  11. You *must* watch the film! Its funny, dark humour, and Cary Grant is bloody hysterical in it! What I always loved was that one of the aunts never really walks, she sort of hops, its comical to watch! Every character is so well done, its such a fun film to watch! (Plus I love that it takes place in one of our old neighborhoods!) So I'm all for the name change! On a serendipitous note, I just got a perfume called "Arsenic" by Tokyo Dark, brilliant, even has a touch of absinthe in it! XXX
    PS you change your blog name like I enjoy changing my given name according to how I feel on any given day! (Never felt like my given name fit, ever.)

    1. I will, I will! Everyone is telling me how great it is, I'm surprised I haven't ever came across it before now!

      I just checked out Tokyo Milk/Dark and I am fascinated! I love less well known perfumeries and they look like just my style! I especially love the sound of 'Let Them Eat Cake' 'Honey & The Moon' and 'Sugar Sugar' The bottles are gorgeous, especially those black ones, particularly the key and octopus bottles! Unfortunately it doesn't look like they ship internationally! Booo! ~ ♥ ~
