Oh, deer me..

This past week and a half I've been cursed with an unfortunate bout of the common cold, so whilst my antibodies have been hard at work fighting this unwelcome virus I've been making the most of my days by doing plenty of low energy-sucking activities around the house, including some quick and easy crafts such as making a colony of bats for my mirror, some batty bunting for the fireplace mantle and some home-made gift tags for Christmas.

I've also been enjoying a spot of baking! Bread pudding was always a staple in our diet when I was a little kid but I hadn't eaten it since I was at least 12 years old! I decided to try my hand at making it last week and it turned out far better than I expected, the comforting smell and taste opened a floodgate of childhood memories! I've already made plans to bake two yummy festive treats next week which will be gobbled up over the holidays!

Sickness calls for plenty of reading (Hell, any day calls for plenty of reading!) and I've just started a new book (Well, I say new but I got it a few months ago and I'm only just starting it now!) I really hope they're planning on a third book in this series as I've found this one and the previous one so hard to put down!

I've also been spending a lot of quality time with my loved one this past week watching films and playing board games including Cluedo and one of his childhood games, Hero Quest, which I've quickly become addicted to! Does anyone else love playing board games during December when you're feeling all warm and festive?

Talking of festive, here's a little peek at one of our Christmas decorations. Those beautiful and graceful creatures seem to be a prevailing factor in our living room this month but I'm not complaining! ♥

What do you enjoy the most about December?

  1. That bread pudding looks delicious! Actually, that's one of the things I like best about December - the decorating and baking in preparation for Christmas. I wish I could find some pretty glittery reindeer in purple to add to the collection!

Hope you feel better soon ... :o)

    1. I wish every month felt just as festive as December! I start feeling it around October but when it comes to December I become some what of a home goddess, baking, decorating and cleaning all the time! If I felt that way most of the year then I'm sure my other half would be quite happy XD ~♥~

    1. Thanks Vix! I'm feeling much better now! The bread pudding tasted just as I remembered it! I'm definitely going to be making it again! Yummy! ~♥~

  4. I had Hero Quest as a kid - think it's still in my wardrobe at my Mum's! And we have that glittery purple deer too, and his cousin in an alarming lime green. I'll just be glad when all the wrapping is done and I can enjoy slumping in front of the telly with all the fairy lights lit.

    1. I was so happy to spot him when doing the weekly food shop! I was going to get the turquoise glittery deer too but as there isn't anything else that colour in our living room I decided to stick with purple. I finished all the wrapping this week and even wrapped my other half's gifts that he bought for his family too. I really enjoy gift wrapping, I am a bit of a perfectionist in that department! ~♥~

  5. Your bats are looking good! In studying that photo, I can see you have an amazing chandelier. Is that made of glass? That bread pudding looks so good. I've never tried any of that myself, but I can still tell it's good. :) I have some little cousins of your deer sitting around, except they're pink and turquoise.

What do I enjoy most about December? Pretty much just getting ready for Christmas with baking and decorating!

    1. Thanks Justine :D Yes it is a black glass chandelier! I had always wanted one in the living room and managed to find one on sale! I really love it! It adds so much more drama to the room ♥ I definitely plan on having another in the dining room when we get around to renovating that, and maybe one in the hallway and up on the landing too! ~♥~

  6. Hero Quest! I've lost mine but luckily my other half still has his. I remember the first adventure by heart ;P It's a great game, and if you like it, you might also like Descent. It's very similar, but more flexible and with possibilities for playing campaigns and it has lots of expansions.

And your glittery deer is to die for! Did you coat it with glitter yourself or did you find one ready-made?

    1. I'm surprised my older brother didn't have this game as he collected and painted Warhammer! It's such a fun and addicting game! I just looked up 'Descent' and WOW.. it looks far more intense than Hero Quest! I'll have to show it to my other half and see what he thinks of it!

The reindeer was store bought as it is! It only cost £5, worth every penny! I think I'm going to keep him out all year round :p ~♥~

  8. Hellow,
Well being sick it's not good at all, but it's nice to make the most of that time when we are a refugee or our own home. Lovely decoration you mad on that mirror, although i must say what melt my heart was that amazing glitter deer, im such a sucker for glitter things :P
I really have to catch up on WD readings, i believe that is not the comic version right? Never saw it before.
I wish you get better soon, specially before christmas,
    Regards

    1. No this isn't the comic version, the first one in the series called ;Rise of the Governor' is a back story about how the Gov of Woodbury came to be the Gov and how he managed to survive the zombie outbreak in the early days up until then! It's just another perspective from another group of survivors really but it is definitely a gripping read! This second book follows the story of a woman called Lilly who doesn't like the Governors rules! I totally recommend this series if you're an avid fan of the show! ~♥~

  9. I love the picture of the mirror with the bats. A black chandelier is on my wish list, but as we're renting, I can't do much about light fittings, sadly! Even with a cold, you've made the lead-up to Christmas sound so cosy! We're having a heat wave here, with record high temperatures, so it's just never going to be the same. I lived in London for a few years in my early twenties and I have very fond memories of the atmosphere during the Yuletide season.

    1. Thanks Emma :) I can't imagine living in a hot climate at Christmas time! In fact I can't imagine living in a hot climate at any time - me and heat just don't mix well! ~♥~

  10. Oh no, you poor thing Sandy! Hope you get better before the 25th! My nose has been running like a tap all month but I don't think I've succumbed to a cold just yet, extremely unusual as I am usually the first to get whatever illness is going around! I made sure I finished Rood to Woodbury before deciding which of my Charity warehouse books to start on next, really enjoyed it! I kind of like that the TV series deviates from the comics a bit, more surprises to enjoy! Did you see the last episode?? I was squealing at my laptop when the Gov brought in Daryl and pitted everyone against him and Merle! I hope nothing happens to them, I will have the biggest bitch-fit if Daryl dies :'( Hero Quest looks cool, I love board games but never really had anyone to play with when I was younger (one of the downsides of being an only child!), and if I could persuade my friends to play one, they would get bored of it long before I would! ♥

    1. I am feeling a lot better now, still a little stuffy but I'm sure that will be gone by Christmas day, knowing my luck though I'll end up catching another cold just after! You finished Road to Woodbury bloomin' quickly! Although I can see why you did XD It's been in my hands every spare minute I have! Yeah, I always watch the episodes online the day after they've aired in America or sooner depending on when the first upload goes up! I was wanting to smack the Gov in the face for that cheap trick (or at least gouge out his other eye!) I suspect he's going to pit Merle and Daryl against each other in the zombie fighting ring but if he does that is a bad idea! They're brothers after all! I'm sure in the end they'll get up by the skin of their teeth, especially Daryl as he's most peoples favourite character! It's hard to say though as they don't have a part in any of the comics, not that I've seen so far anyway plus yeah, the comic and series aren't exactly on the same wave length! I am looking forward to the second part of the season with bated breath! ~♥~
